SAFETY
AND SECURITY
Tiny Toes Day Nursery provides the highest level of safety and security
in the Nursery environment. Our indoor and outdoor
equipment is carefully selected and maintained. Our Training
Programme reinforces staff awareness in safety, first aid
and the importance of security. Only known parents
or their identified helpers are allowed to pick up the child
and only authorised visitors are admitted. There is
one access point to the Day Nursery (three fire escapes) and
this is secured all day by digital lock and only the staff
have the code. All our outdoor play areas are secured
by specially designed high double-edged fencing. If
entering these areas, please ensure the gates are closed
and locked at all times.
FIRE
REGULATIONS
Regular fire drills are carried out so both staff and children
are completely familiar with the required procedures. As
well as a fire alarm system there is an emergency lighting
system installed in case of power cuts, which is reassuring
especially in the winter months.
INSURANCE
AND OUTINGS
Tiny Toes carries Public Liability Insurance and requires
parental permission before children are taken on outings.
SICKNESS
Any child suffering from a doubtful rash, sore throat, discharge
from the eyes or nose or diarrhoea should be kept at home
until a Doctor has certified that the symptoms have disappeared. Should
a child become sick at the Nursery, every effort will be
made to contact parents.
ENVIRONMENTAL
ISSUES
We exert the maximum control over the choice of our materials,
from using recycled paper to the choice of cleaning agents.
COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT
Nurseries are an important part of the community. We
have occasional visits from members of the community, such
as policemen to talk on road safety, dentists to take the
fear out of dentistry and vets to talk about the care of
animals. These visits all help to develop a child's
social skills and general knowledge.
RECORD
KEEPING
Observation is our main tool for gaining information. Careful
records will be kept of your child's interests, experience
and understanding, skills, social competence, problem solving
ability and attitudes to learning. These records are
not a series of attainment targets, but a profile of the
child, a record of observation. As such they are essential
to parents and will involve children in identifying their
own achievements.
During the Nursery year we send out two progress reports
(In May and November). This gives the parents the opportunity
to see how their child has developed over the months. This
is then followed by a Cheese and Wine evening. You
as parents have the chance to have a consultation with your
child's worker and also meet the parents of other children.
PARENTS
AS PARTNERS
We adopt an open door policy where parents are encouraged
to share the Nursery Day with the staff and discuss what
their child has been doing throughout the day.
THE
SETTLING IN PROCESS
Babies are admitted from one month having accepted the confirmed
booking, visits with parents are encouraged and we will make
arrangements for informal chats with staff to ensure a smooth
transition into the nursery.
We offer a free hour session, this gives you a chance to
meet your child's worker and familiarise yourself with the
nursery surroundings. We then offer a free morning
or afternoon session to see how your child fits into the
nursery day.
STAFF
Tiny Toes staff are recruited not only for their qualifications
and experience, but also their empathy and commitment to
the philosophy and policies of Tiny Toes . This is
reinforced by our unique in-house Training Programme.
